HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY
Shiatsu is
a holistic, manual therapy which was developed in Japan and has its roots in
traditional Chinese healing methods as well as in Far Eastern philosophies. The
different forms of Shiatsu which are practiced and further developed today came
up at the beginning of the 20th century and are influenced by
Western knowledge as well. The human being is considered a unity of body, mind
and soul, whose well-being is connected with the harmonic flow of the body’s energy.
METHOD AND EFFECT
By
applying sensitive, sustained pressure with fingers, hands, elbows, knees and
feet as well as stretches, rotations and swings blockages are released and
disharmonies of the body’s energy (Qi) are balanced. Thus the energy in the
body’s channels (meridians) can flow freely. The pressure results from shifting
weight from the abdomen (Hara). The shiatsu-practitioner adjusts the intensity
of his/her touches to the needs of each client. Treatments improve
self-awareness and sensitivity for the body, increase vitality, boost the
immune system enhancing the body’s natural healing abilities thus maintaining
overall health.
Shiatsu
relaxes, sets your mind at ease, centres the body, revitalizes, regenerates and
strengthens.
